Pooya

Multidisciplinary Visual Artist

Negar Pooya is a multidisciplinary visual artist born in Iran. Living and working in Toronto, graduated in 1994 with honors, received a full scholarship to complete my Masters of Art degree in 1995. Completed MFA with honors in 1997.

Her works engage a range of media, painting, printmaking, photography, and digital art.

She was selected for the "Women of the World's" worldwide exhibition project performed by the University of Maryland, 2000. Her works are included in many museums and private collections, including Contemporary Museum of Art in Iran, Women's Edge Coalition in Washington, Florean Museum in Romania, International Museum of Woman in California.

Her work touches on immigration, women's issues, humanity, and the beauty of life.

She combines her personal experiences and emotional reactions with her knowledge of art to create a communicating language. She expresses the feeling and character beneath the surface; feminine energy empowers her works. She works on several bodies of work at the same time.

Photography for Negar is a medium for creative expression to capture more than a photo, something behind the image. Light, emotion, and her background as a painter play a massive role in her photography.

Over the past few years, Negar has been focusing her art on themes addressing humanity, the environment, and nature.

Her paintings explore her vision of society and people's relations and concepts of faith, hope, and love. The people in her paintings are not realistic. She tried to capture the spirit or sense of the subject while incorporating some elements from nature.

Many of her works, including printmaking, are deeply connected to her understanding of mythology, psychology, religion, and her search for reasonable answers to so many of my longstanding questions. She has also done some research on our ancient Iranian religion, mythology, and culture. Although she inspired a lot from ancient civilizations and mythology, her works speak of our daily life!
